Easter weekend silliness : epaulettes and rare fiction

I was out at an event for Good Friday in my local town centre this morning and heard a phrase which delighted me and which might just prove a caption in need of a back story.

The phrase was as follows : "Your epaulette is all crushed up - it must be your handbag"

which, as said by one female Salvation Army member to another ,as was the case today, is quite an ordinary statement.

But I thought it might lead to some suggestions of an earlier age of sail context ...
all suggestions gratefully received ( I may well regret saying that of course)

And here is another piece of silliness people might like to play with - under the cut an unusual book offer from Amazon - we are indebted to volgivagant again for spotting this originally on Amazon.de and then preparing this screen cap when we found that- yes indeed !- Amazon.co.uk had the self -same error.



Can't see the Forster for the Forester.

Fans of age of sail novels will wait a while, if not forever, for this version of Lord Hornblower by EM Forster :) It might be worth a challenge to come up with a section of a HH story in the style of EMF of course..
he did write the libretto of Britten's Billy Budd of course ;)
