You're back :D Ouch :( This is very well done. Painfully realistic. It's had to imagine how men like Archie had the determination to continue, the will to just keep putting one foot in front of the next day after day when nothing is left to them. It's hard to believe that this is the same boy that lay on the hearth rug playing chess with Horatio. Please get him out of there soon. War does terrible things to men.

I have some contemporary etchings of Bitche which I'll try to post for you soon. *hugs*

Not all the way back, yet. My stupid alternator broke, and I'm stuck in a motel on Cape Cod until monday, when it can be fixed. But it does have wifi, which my childhood home did not.

I had a hard time writing this one. Glad it feels real, even if it hurts us. I am resisting the urge to rush to El Ferrol.

I wanted to set this dream up, as one of the reasons that Archie shouts "Go away," when Horatio finds him.

Awww sorry you're stuck :( Hope you're safe and warm at least and get home sooner rather than later.

I had a hard time writing this one.
I know. I had a tough time writing this stuff too.

I am resisting the urge to rush to El Ferrol.
It's a long road, but it has to be real.

I wanted to set this dream up, as one of the reasons that Archie shouts "Go away," when Horatio finds him.
Aye, it's not easy working round that one. To my mind Archie had basically lost it by the time Horatio turned up. Any sense of self or reality had just gone by the way side and Horatio's reappearance is just too much.

*happy sigh* Angst, beauteous angst.

This is wonderful, so painful and real, and just enough details to make me wonder about the stories behind the details. The sore, the man with the cough, why they took his jacket away, why he doesn't talk.

This Archie is quite a scary man still, though. It will be interesting to see how you reduce him down enough to fit into the broken man at Ferrol.

In some ways Archie is reverting to a childlike state, I think. The rocking and the licking are deep down baby-comfort things. But you are right. This Archie is someone who is still dangerous to mess with. Feral is a word Anteros used once, and I think that that is right.

Poor guy. But he will be returned to love. I am holding onto that.

Shes back - and a desperate and fiercely suffering Archie is painted with skill here - as would be expected.

Painful but thoughtful too .

btw I know there is a comment I need to reply to of yours which I have mislaid at the moment- am so behindhand but gradually getting there!

Tommorrow I will be home for real. Cannot wait! Next story is burbling like an old coffee pot. Horatio next, I think.
