What do you hope for?
I hope for a lot of things. Some more important than others. I hope the Orioles will win another World Series. They haven't won one since 1983. My brother and I were just kids back then, and as much fun as we had? He's put his soul into the team and I want to see him get a ring. We haven't even been to the playoffs since 1997. John and I were there to see them win the ALDS against the Mariners. But that was eleven years ago and I think we're kinda due. At least the Ravens won the Super Bowl in 2000 and won their division two years ago.
That's the stuff that might be considered trivial, though. There are other things that working on the X-Files has put into perspective for me. After everything that all of us who worked these cases went through, I hope for all of us to have peaceful and happy lives. Every one of us lost something, oftentimes a lot, because of our dedication to finding the truth amongst the lies. I can only hope that Mulder and Scully are happy together, and that they'd be proud of what John and I have done now that we're assigned to the files in those cabinets.
As for me? I can hope for a life that'll be free of all the things that've plagued it over the last few years. A life without sociopaths, mental hospitals, giant reptiles, and super-soldiers. Though I don't know how likely that'll be, considering my assignment. So instead I'll just hope for a long and happy marriage, maybe a child someday. And of course the one thing I never stop hoping for: that I'll make my father proud.
