A good ol' redneck thanksgiving...

So last night I departed from the comforts of liberal new york, and ventured out into the wilds of penn, land of social conservatives and pick-up trucks, for thanksgiving with my paw. The bus ride here packed, as one would expect, with an exodus of weary and irritated travelers, all going home to see their back woods relatives. However, there was one old man, who I had the distinct pleasure of sitting across from, who had decided to load up before the bus ride, spending 3 hours in the bar at Port Authority. To make things even better, my ipod ran out of battery 1/2 hour into the ride, and he took it upon himself to make conversation and keep me company. Woo-hoo! Other than that, the ride was alright, and we (my sister and I) came home to exceptionally comfy and warm beds, and crashed. This morning we watched the parade. I still don't get that tradition. I mean, it's not that great a parade. It's more commercials and bad commentary than anything else... but then again, i don't suppose there's that much else on thanksgiving morning. So, after fasting, bumming around, doing a bit of yoga, and going for a walk, we headed out to an inn/resturaunt for a buffet-style thanksgiving dinner (This is our second year of going out for thanks. dinner, and it still doesn't rub me the right way, but, what're ya gonna do?). The place was actually quite cute and cozy, and the food was bangin (Thom, you would have died... honestly). After sitting down with my first plate and the intention of going hard, the three closest tables to us suddenly begin discussing politics, even to the extent of crossing the table-boundaries to praise bush. ::shakes head:: I decided, after little deliberation, that rather than pick a fight, I would take the route of peace and drink until I could no longer hear them. This worked quite effectively, and certainly took the edge off the night. After that, we went to my father's neighbor's house (Reise and Jenn) and chilled and watched football. Despite their political affiliations, they are quite cool, and have an adorable 1 year old, Lucas. After some pumpkin cheesecake (Holla!), we came home, almost had a family feud over monopoly, and either crashed, or stole away to our very warm rooms with very comfy beds and updated our ljs... All in all a pretty good tofurkey day. So, in the redneck spirit...

Thank God for stuffing, beer, and pie.
