The major events of the last few days.

1:: Elaina gets food poisoning...
The major parts of this charming event were outlined in the last post. It should be noted that by early Monday I could eat a banana in something under twenty minutes, by Monday night I ate a cheese sandwich, and by today I was eating absolutely everything in sight in order to replenish all my lost nutrients. I had to give a talk in class during recovery. I was almost over my mind-splitting headache when someone pulled the fucking Old Main fire alarm and Jen started screaming. IN THE MIDDLE OF MY TALK. And I was doing pretty well.

2:: Elaina gives John his present!
When his sisters showed up at his family birthday dinner, they both glared at me with their presents and said, 'You're going last!' In a goodnatured way. There was so much hype and hope attached that I was visibly shaking when he sat the box in his lap. Katie whipped out her camera. The present had been overhyped by me to John, so he had a lot of hope wrapped up in it, too. He undid the wrapping paper and found... a hat. He put on the hat and I told him to read the card. He read it. It didn't quite dawn on him until Katie said, 'You're going to Montréal, stupid!' He's happy. I'm happy. Now, what to do in Montréal?

3:: Elaina breaks the car...
The day started out wrong. A terrible series of events that coalesced into an icky day. It started when I decided on fleecey ballet slippers instead of sneakers. Then I decided not to bring an umbrella. I decided to drive to school since I decided to delay so long that I missed the late bus. I decided to drive to the CAC to get a sandwich after class. The heavens opened up and drenched Kamloops in terrible sideways rain. I decided to turn the wipers to maximum. Left-right-left-right-left... Wait a second. That driver's side blade just kept going, left off the car and into the street. I parked the car and retrieved it, and had to stop at the AW theatre instead of going home; I couldn't actually see out the windshield and I hear that's important. When I arrived in the green room with drenched feet, drenched hair, a drenched sandwich and a wiper blade in three pieces, I got a hug. But I was still sad. And wet.

4:: Elaina gets a scholarship!
I got a letter. I don't know how much, but there's a banquet. How much do you need to get for them to throw you a banquet? I'm excited. Someone out there thinks I am smart.

I don't get it. I think it was a good week.

futility, john, holidays, family, illness, school
