to tivo or not to tivo
I went home today to see my folks and also to watch a couple shows my dad taped for me last week. It pretty much reaffiremed my recent thoughts on getting a DVR. He's got a really old VCR, and the quality showed. The sound was horrible, the tracking is constantly off, and it's irritating as hell to have to go home everytime i want to watch a recorded show (i don't have a VCR at my place). TIVO looks like the best option. Easy to set up, you can watch it on your computer, and I'd be able to enjoy my shows from my own couch in splendid digital clarity.
Only problem is trying to pick whether to get it at Best Buy or online from TIVO itself. Online is like 2-6 dollars cheaper in the long run, and Best Buy offers the pleasant immediacy of getting it now. But also, online lets you pay for a year to 3 year subscription upfront- so you don't have to worry about monthly payments. Hmmm, what to do, what to do.
