DEVO's Indivisible Jukebox

May 16, 2009 16:37

One of my favorite features in the British mag devoted to outside and expanded music known as THE WIRE is INVISIBLE JUKEBOX, your basic blindfold test in which certain noteable music folk are played tunes with no previous info, and their reactions, recall and thought tangents regarding same are documented.

One of my favorite sections of THE WIRE's website is when they post the raw unedited versions of interviews and, yes, even INVISIBLE JUKEBOX subjects.

Their latest was done with Mark Mothersbaugh of DEVO, quite the fun read - check his comments about Suicide, Pere Ubu and Sparks.

A contrasting dab of poignance does enter the chat, though, when Mothersbaugh gets to talking about his memories of the septuagenarian Raymond Scott, the amazing composer of much well loved (and at least subliminally familiar) cartoon music.

See for yourself right here.

And please don't hate, but after much prodding from folks like, oh, my own brother, I finally got around to checking out Elliott Smith's music, specifically the XO disc.  We dig so far.
