I am unsure about most fine points of Louisiana law, and even less educated about Ohio law. So, please take what I say with the grain of salt of one spouting only their uneducated thoughts.

First thing which bothers me is ....

"Apparently the police had "lost" the child and now they think it is hers"

At some point this lost child had to be returned to some custodian. Be it a parent, court appointed home or relative. There would be a record of such event. This record could easily prove of disprove whose child it was.

If there was simply a report to police of a "lost" child, and the police never saw the child. Then how would they know what family to accuse.

That being set aside. A visit from child protect service can be very nerve racking. But, usually they will not take the child unless the home is considered a danger. And, when they do take the child, there is usually a plan given to the parent on how to get the child back.

I have seen/heard of case where poor parents are railroaded for their young adoptable babies , but even in those cases, there where valid reason for the inatial removal.

It sounds like she needs an advocate. And there are several out there for children in parents.

Also her local church would be an excellent resource for family legal help.
