I'm looking for some input on this situation, I figured those with experience would be able to help me. My summer plans have kind of come down to two choices. One is all but guaranteed, the other is not certain yet.
Option A) I learned today of a six week program that would put me in Taichung, Taiwan for six weeks. In the morning I would have a tutor for Mandarin, and in the afternoons I would be taking a rotation of three classes (two weeks each) on Medium Size Businesses in Taiwan, The High Tech industry in Taiwan, and Taiwanese Culture.
We would be meeting with business leaders, touring facilities and would be in the field.
For six weeks it will cost me about $900, including the flight and the dorm, but not meals. As a senior standing I do not need any of these classes for actual credit but it would be an amazing experience and a good resume builder.
B) For a while I have been using some contacts of mine (an aunt) to try and find a job that would fit my internship in the Napa Valley, CA. I am supposed to have a phone interview with someone who owns to premier labels (Rudd and Girard). This is something that I am considering as a career choice, and it would give me a great experience in deciding whether or not I would want to do this for a living, lead to a possible job right out of college, and give me great contacts in the area.
To do option A I would have to see if I could work an internship around the dates of the program, or do it next summer (possibly delaying graduation from May to August). I am applying for the program regardless(My Dad be damned, who isn't on board right now) and will know for sure my acceptance as soon as I turn in my forms and there is no guarantee things will work out with the winery - but I think the sooner I start thinking about making an ultimate decision between the two, the better chance I have of making a decision that is best for me.
