Jury Duty

Sep 10, 2007 18:51

I’m very irked with the government right now. I was summoned for jury duty, but that’s not really the problem. Although I reside elsewhere, I still use my hometown as my legal place of residence, so I was selected for jury duty a couple of months ago. They sent the notification to my home, but since I don’t live there anymore, Dad forwarded me the letter. At least, Dad told me so, and I’m inclined to believe him. Unfortunately, the blasted thing never arrived. Consequently, a couple of weeks ago they sent out another notification, which arrived today, September 10th. Guess when I was supposed to report? That’s right, September 10th.

I’m not quite sure what to do. There’s no number for me to call and straighten this out. Do I drive down to the court tomorrow and try to sort this out? I’m supposed to give three days notice before taking a personal day off from work. If it was an emergency, I could, but I’m not sure if this counts as an emergency. Furthermore, I’m kind of afraid if I go to the court tomorrow, all the beauracratic red tape will make me have to skip work the next day and the day after, and so on.

Maybe I’m over reacting. I’m sure this wouldn’t be the first time someone skipped jury duty, but I’d hate to have this haunt me later on. The only thing scarier than that is the fact that these people may be in charge of my healthcare several years from now.
