3-D Snowflake How-To

Hello! Thanks for checking out how to make a 3-D snowflake! They're great for the holidays, no matter what you celebrate (or don't). They're quicker than you'd expect, a lot easier than they look, and always make a good impression! They can be great gifts for family and friends or just decorations around your house. I've uploaded pictures on my way of doing it so you can follow along. If you have any questions feel free to message me or leave a comment here!

Step 1: Gather materials
6 sheets of paper, any color you wish!
stapler/staples
clear tape
scissors

Step 2: Cut paper to size and fold
If you know origami, or have made a fortune teller, this should be easy. Hold the 8 ½ by 11in paper longways and fold one corner to make a diagonal line. Cut off the excess to make a triangle. (Unlike origami this does NOT have to be perfect! :P) Do this for all 6 sheets.

Step 3: Cut into the triangles

Keep the paper folded in the triangle. You can choose to do one sheet at a time or cut multiple sheets at once, whatever you’re comfortable and good at. Hold the triangle at the base (the folded side, not the open side) and cut 3 lines into ALMOST the middle. DO NOT cut all the way to the middle, because you need that part to keep the paper together. Do the same on the other side, lining them up so they look like this:

Step 4: Tape!

Take one triangle and open it up. You can see that there are lines cut into the triangle but the whole paper is still together. Take the inner most part and bring the two points together, like this:

Flip it over so that is facing the other direction, and do the same for the next section. Flip over again, tape the two corners, flip over again, and tape the two corners again. It should look like this:

Step 5: Staple!

This is a bit tricky since it’s hard to describe. I tried to show it in the pictures but it’s kinda tough. Basically, you take the tip of each design and gather them together and staple, like this:

After that, take the outermost side of two nearest each other and staple those together, like so:

Do this for each, until you’ve stapled them all.

Step 6: Ta-da!

You can poke a hole in the top and hang it, or tape it on the wall. It’s a gorgeous decoration and always a conversation piece. If you want to try making them smaller (these are about 16 inches long/wide) you can start with a smaller square. It’s a little tougher to staple them since there is a smaller space to get the stapler in, but they’re very cute and make great gifts.
