Blink/MCR show :D
So i had a good night! It was practically no trouble getting there (thank God for GPS!) free parking, a relatively short wait in line to get in. I met my friend there and we got food and used the restroom. Manchester Orchestra was the opening band and i didn't like them at all. Their sound was in the vein of Blinks, but a LOT slower and many times the music cut out to have the (not so great IMO) singer do some vocals, when all he really did was slow down a few lines of lyric. nothing special there.
MCR was FUCKING FANTASTIC. they were just on. Watching frank live was incredible. he knocked over his mic stand a few times and some poor techie had to brave the whirlwind-'o-frank to set it back up again! Gee was great, vocally, which i was a bit worried about given some prior youtube vids i've watched but i loved it. Ray was AAAAAMMMAAAAAZZZIIINNNGGGG, of course, on guitar, ripping and shredding away. and there's always Mikey Fucking Way we can't forget about ;)
They sang a bunch of songs (more than i thought they would) from black parade. Only one from bullets and a few from Sweet revenge. They DID NOT sing Nanana, vampire money, or sing! random. But they sang teenagers, black parade, house of wolves (opened with it) and MAMA! OMG MAMA! MY FAVORITE SONG FROM THAT ALBUM AND THEY PLAYED IT AHHH!!!! :DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD i was so stoked!!
I braved the jungle that is the "merch tent" during the break between mcr and blink. I actually didn't do too bad! I got in and out pretty quick, spending only $30 on a shirt with their faces Xed out with "WANTED", with the tour dates on the back. love it. there was a b&w poster of Gee just belting it out but i was already on the guys nerve for changing my tee size haha. I'll get it in Sept when i get to go again!
Blink's set was good. I am only a casual fan so their new stuff sounds exactly the same as their old stuff to my untrained ear. but omg do THEY FUCKING SWEAR A ~LOT! a whole song dedicated to "shit piss cunt fuck cocksucker motherfucker" and Tom ended the set with a beautiful rendition of "i fucking fucked your mom". They are 12!!! but hilarious. very entertaining. Travis' drum solo was incredible.
My only complaints were not about the concert itself. it was an outdoor venue so a TON of people were smoking! like holy SHIT i didn't realize this many people smoke!! add pot in to the mix and UGH it was so gross smelling!! now i don't know if it's maybe my mental block affecting my physical body but i honestly don't think i'd be able to do pot. I got a headache just from the wafting tendrils!
And of course, of FUCKING COURSE, who was situated RIGHT in front of me but some tall dude and his super cuddly girlfriend (who, even worse, had a bump (out-of-)style hairdo making her even slightly taller. They cuddled all night (which, gross, i dont give a fuck) making the window their heads made smaller and smaller and smaller. I was WATCHING through that head-window jackass!! ugh. we'll be closer when i go in Sept and closer to the aisle so hopefully I'll have a better view!
All in all it was a great night. I didn't spend a ton of time in the parking lot waiting, only about 20-25 minutes. the drive home wasn't bad. And i got to see MCR live for the first time! :D
ETA: OMG YOU GAIZ I FORGOT THE BEST PART! During Planetary the venue/mcr(?) staff brought out HUGE FUCKING GIANT balloons FILLED WITH GLITTEERRRRR!! a few popped and there was a shower of shimmer. it was great :P
