the meal

And so another Thanksgiving under my belt and put away.

This is always a kind of tough time for me, Nov, my dad died in Nov.

He loved to cook.

No I MEAN  HE LOVED to cook.

And Thanksgiving was his canvas. appetizers, veggies, rolls, stuffings, Turkey and Ham.
the man was an artist.

The stuff he made..
I'm still trying to catch up.

At 1st I was just Robin to his Batman, mixing up things, getting pots and pans ready, being a taster.
My 1st big show was brining a roast beef onto the menu.
He liked that, Turkey, Ham and Roast Beef.

then the next thing, he let me add some new appetizers, teryaki wings, and then stir fried clams in shells.

We were now a team the Skippy and Michael Thanksgiving Show.

It was great, every year we'd start planning in Oct.
we'd go shopping the week before.

Hitting different markets for the best deals, and going to our little secret out of the way places for the best in cuts of meat, the freshest herbs, and just the right seasonings.

And then we would bring it all together and totally rock the dinner table.

I miss him so much.

But every Thanksgiving he's still with me.
Every Nov. when i get up early and walk into the kitcthen he's waiting for me.

yeah he's there looking over my shoulder going,

'are you really going to put that in?'

"oranges? really? i wouldn't do it, but hey you're mr. food network what do i know?'

'you really like garlic don't you?'

he's a pain in the ass.

and i wouldn't have it any other way.

This year's menu:

Salt rubbed roast Turkey.

Prime Rib Roast with hash browns au jus.

Honeybaked Ham tm.

Stuffing Muffins

sausage stuffing

Sweet Corn

Yellow rice with saffron

Turkey Pan Gravy

and

Collard Greens

Mac and Cheese

Sweet Potatoes with Marshmallows

Pumpkin Pie

Pineapple Upside down cake

(i didn't do any of the and stuff, my 92 year old Grandmother did the sweet potatoes. they rocked.)

one of these days we're going to eat that 3 year old can of cranberry sauce.

Happy Thanksgiving.
