Frankly, it's going to be hard getting through today. I look back at my entries from 2 years ago, and they seem so much better-informed, so much more insightful, a product of a completely different person.

"I went to James Lovelock's talk last night, in which he outlined his latest book "The Revenge Of Gaia", and spoke of the events which had spurred him to write it...Whatever your stance, he is a clear and effective speaker; the depth of his knowledge and volume of his experience are awe-inspiring...Initially, Gaia was just a cool metaphor to me, and Lovelock a cool maverick scientist. In 2006, when the environment is visibly succumbing to increasing pressure, I now feel Gaia is the easiest way to deal with the enormity of our predicament. When we think of interconnected systems, we think too abstractly. Once you make the analogy with positive feedback in human homeostasis, the reality truly sinks in."

Pompous purple prose, but it has something to say, at least. Where did that person go? Can I persuade them to come back and give me a royal kick up the arse?
