Augh!

The Tabs won the Boat Race. *mock hate* Still, with the +9lbs-a-man and extra height advantage, not to mention 2 world champs and 2 Olympic rowers, at least half of whom have had previous Race experience, the win by 1 and a 1/4 lengths reflects far better on the Dark Blues.

The Dark Blues' coach, Sean Bowden, by the way, is amazing. Year after year he's taken callow debutants and given them the technique and discipline to match (and beat, 5 times out of 7) nigh-on professional opposition. Year after year you see irritating internationals, fresh off the world circuit, flocking to the Tabs' shed to (in too many cases) take only nominal degrees. For crying out loud.

Ok, in all fairness the decline of amateurism in high-profile sporting events is impossible to reverse, and both sides have attracted their share of semi-pro rowers. Watching world-class rowers struggle on the Thames isn't just entertaining, it's testimony to the gruelling difficulty of the Race. Still, let me gnash my teeth over this loss, for today :D
