[[Continuing on with Indy and Rei's plottyness as they head for the hospital. Like Kate's posts with FuumaHughes and Indy, some will overlap. Post is behind a cut for length, but anyone who has a healer/doctor/medic can assist. ^.^]]

Welcome to your life, there's no turning back )

[Rei barely recalled the long, agonizing trek to the hospital. Everything was a blur, sheer force of will keeping her legs moving, and she was sure she'd blacked out more than once on the way there.

Eventually the looming structure of the hospital greeted her hazy vision, and for a moment she could see a figure staring down at her, but at that moment the world tilted and her legs gave out. Darkness threatened to take her over, but suddenly she was wrapped in warmth and a stern but kind voice was giving orders then speaking to her, asking her name.]

R... Rei. Y-you gotta..gotta help Indy.

"Indy? Is that your friend, Rei?"

Y.. Yeah...

"We're helping him, don't worry. But you're hurt, too. You've got to stay with me, Rei. Stay awake."

[Even as the woman said it Rei could feel fatigue and pain dragging her further down. Sounds became muffled, voices distant. Clinging to her last fraying strings of strength, she heard the woman shout another order and felt her body shift, placed on something flat.

Weakly, she cried, praying silently not for herself, but for her friend she was so terrified of losing]

[Several exhausting hours later, Izumi had the boy stabilized and his pierced shoulder on the mend with her healing, and had the girl sleeping with a heavy dose of pain killers, her broken arm splinted, waiting for when Izumi would have a better chance to tend to her. Her wounds, while bad, were not life threatening, and her friend had been top priority with his blood loss and broken ribs.

It was tiring, to say the least, to keep such a constant vigil after constantly slow days, and Izumi's energy was already running low. Still, she stayed at their sides, waiting for any sign that her efforts had not been in vain with him. Short breaks were all she allowed herself, fifteen to twenty minutes at most before pulling more water and letting it slowly, carefully mend his ribs and broken skin.

Warily, she sighed and leaned back in her chair, wondering idly just what those two children could have gotten themselves in to that put them in such bad shape...]

[[Indy's mind wandered back through his travels in India, Europe, the Pacific Islands and more before finally bringing him to an unknown city. He knew that Rei was there somewhere. He could hear her calling for him. But no matter how fast he ran, he could never catch more than a glimpse of her around a corner. Finally he couldn't run any farther and collapsed, coughing, to the ground. He looked at his hand and saw blood dripping through his fingers.]]

[[His eyes opened wide against the white light of the room, and for a moment he panicked, trying to free himself from whatever was keeping him in place. He looked frantically around until he spotted Rei, asleep, before he stopping trying get up.]]

Whoa, hey! Settle down, boy. You're not getting up just yet.

[Though Indy had stopped moving, Izumi placed her hands on his shoulders to keep him from trying again, knowing he was still in no shape to be moving so much.]

Take a couple of deep breaths and tell me what happened. Can you remember anything?

[[Indy focused on the new voice for a moment before the realization hit him.]]

YOU!?

[[Indy tried unsuccessfully to move farther away from her.]]

Get away from me! I didn't do anything wrong by ditching you in that bar! Now get offa me!

.. bar?

[Izumi blinked slowly at the boy until she sighed and shoved him back down on the bed, bapping him lightly on the head with two fingers.]

Child, I have not a clue as to what you're saying. Now stop moving. You're injured! Can't you understand that?!

I'm....what?

[[Indy took another look around, there was Rei, good, and machines, beeping noises, white walls, and...Rei? He turned back to the woman and moaned. For a moment he'd been convinced she was the history teacher his father had stuck him with while he'd gone off in search of some strange text. Thank what ever gods that this wasn't her. She'd kill him. Then kill his corpse and mummify it.]]

Uh...right...um nevermind about the bar lady. Thought you were someone else...

I hear that's common around here.

[carefully, she adjusted the boy's pillows and checked him over again, lifting up the hospital gown he'd been put in to see the faded bruising on his ribs.]

You're not in as bad of shape as when you arrived. You've managed to survive quite a beating, but you'll live. You do, however, need to take it easy. And I mean that.

Now... would you mind telling me just what in the world could have done something like this to the both of you?

[[He frowned, his first reaction was to clam up and not tell the woman anything. It always seemed to work out better that way in the end. But he had to remember that these weren't injuries from trying 'acquire' some precious artifact. And there wasn't a hoard of angry local police waiting to clap him in irons.]]

Some guy attacked me...and Rei tried to help, but that didn't help, and then finally I shot him a few times, but he looks like someone Rei used to know and was confusing her, and he took my gun and had it pointed at her and I stabbed him...and I think I fell off a building after that...but it gets kinda fuzzy after I stabbed him...

rainydayhealer February 6 2009, 05:00:36 UTC
You... stabbed him?

[So that meant there was another person running around with injuries, but from the sounds of it he had it coming, pointing a gun at an innocent girl and manipulating her like that. It sounded almost Fire Nation in behavior, in the time during the war when they were still willing to control anyone and everyone they could get their hands on.

Another sigh, and she put the gown back and pulled the blanket over him, glancing at the sleeping girl behind her]

She dragged you here. I don't know how. She doesn't even have use of her right arm currently, and her ribs were broken as well. She must really like you to be so determined to get you to safety.

[[He looked over at her, but couldn't manage his normal smile.]]

Yeah...I should have listened to her. If I had...

[[He moved his eyes toward the window, trying to figure out how much time had gone by.]]

She'll be okay though, right? Everything will heal up okay, and she won't have any infections or anything, right?

rainydayhealer February 6 2009, 05:12:25 UTC
No, she'll be fine. I'm going to tend to her shortly, but broken bones take a couple of rounds before they begin mending. Right now she's just sleeping with some medication for the pain.

[her gaze followed his to the window, watching as new snow began falling from the darkening sky.]

You've been here about four hours, give or take. Its getting late, but I could get you some food if you think you're up to eating.

indiana_edward February 6 2009, 05:24:41 UTC
[[He shook his head, the thought of eating while his mind was still racing with what ifs wasn't a good one.]]

I'm fine. I'd rather wait...

[[Something that she'd said finally clicked into place.]]

Wait? We've been here four hours...? Last I checked I had at least two gaping holes in me four hours ago!

[[He pulled at the gown, new fears running through his mind. Every child had been fascinated with tales of magic and wonder when they were young. But after seeing what he'd seen, he'd begun to question even God's existence. The power that that man had wielded, and Rei's powers...he was afraid. In his world nothing like this would be considered real. You'd be considered crazy to believe in such things.]]

[[Finally managing to pull away the thin fabric from his chest he could only find scrapes and bruises. His eyes flashed up at her.]]

What did you do!?

[[Leaning forward there was suddenly a sharp pain in his chest and he fell backward into the pillows.]]

rainydayhealer February 6 2009, 05:39:18 UTC
[Lucky for him, the sudden pain that sent him back to the pillows prevented him from getting smacked for his antics. It didn't stop Izumi from growling threateningly at him, though, a warning that he really needed to calm down.]

I told you to take it easy! Don't make me tie you to this bed! Now hold still.

[Slowly, she pulled water from the bowl on the end table, letting it hover above her hand for a moment before it spread over both, a faint blue glow starting as she held them over where most of the pain seemed to be for him.]

It's called water bending. Where I'm from, its common, but around here something called Alchemy seems to be the main focus of abilities. Because water brings life, many Water Benders can use their bending to heal others. That's what I was doing, and will be doing to your friend. Its nothing to fear.

But its still...it can't be...?

[[His eyes followed the water as it moved back and forth through the air just inches from him. His curiosity finally winning out.]]

There's nothing holding it up though...it should fall to the ground.

[[He reached out to touch it, but stopped himself.]]

This isn't natural...

Reply

rainydayhealer February 6 2009, 06:46:45 UTC
For you, maybe. For me there's nothing more natural than feeling the ebb and flow of water, feeling myself push and pull with it, like the tides of the ocean.

[Slowly she pulled her hands away, and with it the water followed from the lightened bruises, every move it made natural and never uncertain. For a moment, she simply held the water in her out stretched hand towards him as it moved and curled above her palm.]

Like I said, nothing to be afraid of. But I can see you're not very comfortable with this at the moment. Trust me, I understand how unnerving it can be to wind up displaced from your own world and wind up in a place where the very laws of nature you came to believe don't seem to exist anymore.

[Rising, she adjusted her white jacket and gently placed the blankets back where they belonged, turning to head out of the room.]

You'll need a few more treatments before the pain in your chest is fully gone, but I'll continue only when you're ready for me to. The nurses can take care of anything you ask in the mean time. Sleep well.
