You mean Dad didn't have a family where you were from? *Her eyes lower, sadly.* Uncle Maes told me that I was the best thing that could have happened to Dad, and Dad and I are really close.
...I can't seem to picture him without a family...
Edward?
................
*He's nothing like that jerk at all! He's too quiet. And he hasn't insulted her height yet. Damn her tallness!
She smiles.*
It's good to make your acquaintance, Edward. How do you do?
Uncle... Maes? Roy never talks about his family, I don't even know if he has a brother. *He watched her quietly, feeling as badly as she was sad - if they were really as close as she claimed... Was his being there preventing his own Roy from having that?* It doesn't matter. *He muttered quietly under his breath, seeming to forget she was even there* If I'm here now, there's no reason.. He can't.
*Ed glanced up at the sound of his name, smiling back instinctively. She looked like the Alfons that he lived with, and seemed nice enough.. So, that was plenty for him. He'd actually yet to meet a male version, in any world - at the last part he hesitated, never having been asked that question before, he wasn't sure what an appropriate answer was for it. So, he only responded to what he did know.* Yeah, you too. There are an awful lot of Alfonses here... Are you new?
He's not his brother. I just call Uncle Maes that--since he's been around since I was a baby. Dad was hopeless when I was a kid, apparently--so Uncle Maes helped him raise me. They're really just best friends.
I think so...*She blushes a bit, scratching her head.* I was in the Southern Lakes camping out right before I came here...
Is that so? Never heard of him. *Which wasn't entirely true. The name struck him as something from Edward's memory, but it was never mentioned by Roy in his presence*
Have you read the sign? I don't think there's a way home... I don't know, I haven't tried to get there - but others have claimed as much. The sign explains what this place is and apparently there's an inn. It's free for people that are new, I think.
Who are you?

I'm Alfons Mustang--daughter of the Hero, Roy Mustang.

I'm Edward. *And that was it, no other explanation was offered.*
