Title: Al's Smile
Author: Goldfishlover73
Series: Brotherhood
Characters: Edward
Word count: 207
Summary: Edward wouldn't stop until he saw Al's smile again.

“Don't worry Brother, we'll get our bodies back.”
Edward always imagined a small, sad smile on this brother's face during his overly optimistic proclamations. It was hard though, to see the rest of his face. Ed could picture the golden eyes-they were the same as his-but the darker blond hair wouldn't be the same as it was all those years ago. Would it be long, like his? Would he keep it short? Would it be in a different style? If Edward hadn't have been so selfish, would Al still have his round face? Would it have thinned out, gotten sharper? Guilt filled Edward: He hadn't had time to grow.

Grow. Would Alphonse have been taller than Ed now? As much as Ed hated to think about it, there was a scientific chance. But Edward would never know.
It's why he vowed he wouldn't give up until he saw that smile again-that face again. Their journey wouldn't be over until Alphonse looked at him with his big golden eyes and gave him a big grin-a grin that wouldn't leave his face for days. He could imagine the smile would be like their mother's. So soft, so proud of what they accomplished. But most important: it was real.
