Summary: Alphonse yearns for something that he can have through his brother
Warnings: Roy and Ed are like, a THING in this one,so... Alphonse watches them, more often than he should.
It’s become a sweet torture- just a pinch of salt in the open wound of his nonexistent heart. He should look away- but he just can’t.
On this occasion, he watches them argue in the Colonel’s office, Mustang going off on Ed for nearly getting himself killed and Ed firing back that he can look after himself. Alphonse can see their love, though; he can hear the undertone of worry and fear when the Colonel gestures to Brother’s bandages. He wonders if Ed hears it too, if he takes more risks to bring out this side of his lover, hidden beneath the layers of political corruption and emotional detachment.
Al will watch brother gesture wildly, saying how they need the stone and that he can’t give up for Al. One of these days, he’ll work up the nerve to tell Brother that it’s okay to not take so many risks. That it’s not worth the broken look they get from the Colonel after every near death adventure.
That Brother needs to open his eyes to what’s right in front of him, to see what Alphonse sees.
And if his Brother’s happiness means he has to stay a suit of armor a little while longer, than its okay. He’ll just keep watching, wondering what it will feel like to feel again.
