He had always had a strong belief in the divine. It had defined his youth, leading him on the path of Warrior-Priest. He could remember the joy he’d felt when he'd been accepted into their ranks. His family celebrated with a roasted goat and honeyed desserts, marveling at his stoicism, as if he were truly one of the Warrior-Priests numbers already. His brother said he thought Scar would cry. And he had, later, weeping great tears of joy when his brother couldn't see and tease him.

In the war, his faith didn't break, not until he woke up with his brother's arm miraculously attached to his body. Some would say there had been something of the divine in that transmutation, but he knew that alchemy was godless. For a long while, he wished his brother had simply let him die, rather than curse him this way. Then he discovered what the arm could truly do.

Even as he’d riven the ranks of the State Alchemists, Scar knew his path took him further and further from the God he had loved.

What he could never have expected was that the path was circular, that it would set his feet once again on the path of God. He had worked with alchemists. He had been given a second chance. Now as he stood here, the desert wind ruffling through his hair, Scar knew it was time to claim a name that God would know him by and work for Heaven again.
