Amazing. Almost poetic with the repetition of phrases, like "washing rice." And of course her relative poverty and lack of luxury makes sense. Even though she was a princess, in Xing there would be no lack of princesses, and she was from a clan on the edge of extinction.

Repetition can be useful as a device, but some things like washing up just always need to get done! Thanks very much for nice comment.

To me, that's the best kind of poetic or literary device - when it fits so well it's what you might say anyway. So yes, the rice always needs to be washed, but the repetition of the phrase for a necessary task adds lyricism to the piece, even if you didn't precisely plan it that way.

This was really beautiful! I loved all the little details, but it wasn't too much to make the story feel slow. You did an awesome job with this.
