Angel said to stay put and not chase polar bears. The second part was easy enough to obey, but I knew I needed to try and find Faith while he was busy with Connor. It had taken a lot to convince him that I should be the one to talk to Faith first, but I knew he would follow me if I didn't go now to find her. There was no way he would trust us alone together and she would feel his presence. That would just make her feel ganged up on and prevent Faith and me from having a real conversation. I didn't want her to feel anymore uncomfortable than she already would since me being a vampire wasn't going to sit well with her.

He said to stay put, but he didn't really say where put was. If I stayed in the jungle and off the beach that was technically staying put, right? It worked out ok in my head, but who knew if it would be enough to pacify my sire. I'd deal with him later. First things first, I needed to find Faith.

I really wanted to see my kids, but I knew that if I got near them before I had a chance to talk to her alone she would stake me on sight. I couldn't hold that against her because I would want to protect our children from anyone and everything too. Fighting the curiosity and need to see them, I stayed in the jungle and got close enough that I could make out her scent. I purposely backed up so she wouldn't sense me and waited to see if she would make her way out to the jungle.

As luck would have it, I heard her say that she was going to look for wood for a fire and would be back soon. That was my cue to back up even deeper into the jungle and listen for her movements. The last thing I wanted to do was startle her more than I needed too. The fact she was searching for wood probably should have been my cue to stay away, but this was my one chance to talk to her alone. I needed to see her, to explain what had happened, and to convince her I would never hurt her, our children, or anyone else that she cared about. I missed her so much and it was driving me insane to think about how she had to feel knowing that I had been killed in front of her while she was giving birth to our kids. She had to hate Angel and me too, and all I could hope to do was try and explain.

It was easy to move through the jungle effortlessly with a grace I never would have possessed as a human. I waited and watched as she made her way into the jungle and stopped near some bushes to look for branches that were already on the ground. Stepping slightly out of the cover of the bushes, I held my hands up when she whirled around to face me. Her slayer senses must have been on fire, and her expression was unreadable.

"I'm not going to attack you. I just want to talk, please? Just for a moment, Faith." I didn't move and kept my hands up like one of those people in a cop movie when they were surrounded with guns pointed at them. She didn't have a gun, but we both knew she could take me out with her hands if she had too. "I'm alone. It's just me, Faith, and I just want to know how the babies are. They're ok right?"
