I enjoyed it in an action movie, mindless entertainment, kind of way (as in, this is not Star Trek). I quite liked the remix of the death scene but yeah, didn't have anywhere near the impact of the original because you really have no sense of Kirk and Spock being friends (let alone ~soulmates). Also the idea of Kirk going fresh out of the academy and into the command of a powerful starship was flawed to start with and remains flawed. Spock being in a 'romance' annoys the crap out of me. I wasn't spoiled for Nimoy's appearance so I let out a little squee at that :)
I'm surprised they went for a retread of WOK though - I hope if there's a next movie they start making their own stories.
Yeah, I can understand that. Unfortunately I am not a fan of mindless action movies in general. What I liked so much about Star Trek was that it was *mindful* entertainment.
Yeah, Kirk may have been the youngest Starfleet captain ever, but that doesn't mean he was going to get a starship fresh out of almost flunking the Academy for cheating on the Kobayashi Maru.
I'm also very annoyed by the Spock/Uhura romance. It was fun to see them flirting a little on the old series as colleagues who respected one another and would never actually cross those boundaries. Here it's totally unrealistic that Spock would deny his human half while carrying on in a romantic/sexual relationship with one.
Totally agree - they have great actors and effects but they can't come up with a damn original script? Sheesh.
Yep - up there on the big screen and everything :)
Nu!Spock couldn't work out whether to trust Khan or not so he rang up the real Spock to ask him. Spock goes 'oh, I already told you I can't tell you anything about the future' and then proceeds to spill the beans. It's fairly brief but it was nice to see him again :)
I didn't mind the new Uhura (as much as I didn't mind any of the other cast) but I disliked the whole 'in a relationship with Spock' thing - because, Spock.
My sentiments exactly. She looks different from the original Uhura, and we haven't seen evidence of her musical talents thus far, but it's primarily her relationship with the supposed more-Vulcan-than-Vulcan that bothers me.
Yes, her relationship with Spock makes no sense to me either. She was also bitchy to Kirk in Reboot, and just seems...unhappy in a way that TOS Uhura never did. Also, I'm sorry, but I have a problem with a character of African descent being played by someone lighter-skinned and of a different ethnicity.
I'm surprised they went for a retread of WOK though - I hope if there's a next movie they start making their own stories.

TOS Spock did it without even counting on his fingers. Still, any excuse for a Nimoy appearance is a good thing.
