Sergio Ramos sees red
I confess, just a few weeks ago I believed that a comeback in La Liga was impossible. But Barcelona has been back in form for the last few games, perhaps because the spring weather is warming up their star striker :D. In contrast, Real Madrid has hit a rough patch, with a draw against Malaga last weekend as well as today at Villareal.
Villareal, a.k.a. the Yellow Submarine, had already drawn Barcelona 0-0, generating the despair that inspired
this fic. Turns out that their defense - not just phenomenal goalkeeper Diego Lopez but the whole damn lot of them - really is that awesome. Real Madrid was assertive today, they had plenty of chances, but only Cristiano Ronaldo, probably extra-motivated now that Messi has surpassed him in the rivalry for Pichichi, was able to get around Lopez to score.
And there was no lack of drama, that's for sure. Jose Mourinho may have made a show of looking comfortable in the first half of the game, but he got himself ejected from the stadium after a temper tantrum in the second, as did Sergio Ramos (for his usual aggression) and Mesut Ozil (for... mouthing off to the ref? IDEK.) I wish that Villareal had been able to score again when they were two men up in the last few minutes, but I guess you can't have everything.
I'll settle for this ;).
