Well I had bought this different kind of alfalfa grass from the store for him...and I'm pretty sure that was the cause. A day or two after, his bowels were upset. So vet number one gave him some medication, but it ended up completely reversing everything. About 2 days later, he was now constipated and stopped eating. Which the vet had told me if he stops eating, he's only got about 24 hours to live. "Bunnies have no back up reserve like us" were his words.
So panicking, I ended up taking Snugs to another vet that was a 20 minute drive away, because all the other vets in town didn't have time to fit him in. (which is very infuriating when I'm worried he's going to die). So this vet says it's his TEETH. WTF. I was so MAD. The vet was recommending a 700 dollar TOOTH shaving operation to fix the problem. He said Snugs' teeth were growing too much and it could be causing him pain, so he's not eating. So I argued that I KNEW it was from the food, and I need something for his stomach and bowels. The tooth thing may be a problem down the road, but isn't my concern right now. I want his digestive track working properly.
Anyways, ended up paying 200 for xrays to see that there was still food in his stomach! Which was good, because at least he's not starving. Since he isn't pooing it out though, his stomach is still full so he isn't hungry. So this vet gave him some medication to move the food out of his stomach... and some laxative just in case nothing's coming out of him in general.
AND the worst part of all. This vet tells me everything I've been feeding Snugs is wrong. So I'm completely changing his diet now. The pet store tells me he needs pellet food, and the vet says it's like feeding him cookies all day. So now I've got Snugs eating romaine lettuce...and I'm attempting carrots and other veggies with his new timothy hay...because alfalfa is apparently bad for rabbits too!!
So now Snugs is sort of eating again. He's had a bit of lettuce and hay. He's still working on the bathroom thing though, so it might be laxative timmmmme.
From this whole ordeal though, I discovered Snugs loves apple juice! So it's REALLY easy to get him to take his medication! I also learned how much that goofy little thing loves and respects me. He's turned into this little baby that wants my attention, and needs me to carry him around haha. It's kinda cute. I honestly don't know what I would do without him.
