As many of you know, this Friday night is a night that will go down in infamy. An end has come to our dream. Our heroes, our adventures, our hope, all will be consigned to history. Since my childhood I have found inspiration in a group of people I have come to know as friends. They were an ever changing group of men and women who took me into their lives and showed me the beauty of morality and taught me to see the truly magnificent potential of humanity. Certainly I am a better person for having learned so many valuable lessons from these people over the past eighteen years. But now, aged 23, I have to finally say goodbye.
These people were part of a group which over the past few years has unfortunately fallen on hard times. The creative drive which once drove their insightful initiatives and allowed us to see the best in ourselves was corrupted by those who sought to use this group’s potential for their own benefit. A new direction over the past two years which sought to renew this group’s vigour and credibility has achieved much, but not enough.
This Friday night on television sets across America, millions of people will tune in to UPN to watch the last ever episode of Star Trek.
A moment’s silence please.
I think the best tribute we can make to our Starfleet heroes will be to, here, review our favourite moments from Star Trek.
Let the nerding begin.
