On being Intersexed

You know...sometimes, I really don't know whether to be amused or frustrated by my "place" in society.

Take what happened at Boston Market the other day. This kid in front of Jalen and I in the line for ordering is just staring at me in total wide-eyed befuddlement. He then tugs at his mum's pant leg, and proceeds to whisper something in her ear. She laughs it off, and tells him "of course not, hon, don't be silly". Then, all smiles, she turns back to looks at me as she walks off...and suddenly her smile fades to a deer-in-headlights look very much like that of her son. I caught her giving me the once-over with her eyes, and then she just walked away baffled.

If there's one thing I've learned, it's that people (and by that I mean the endless sea of human sheep) define the world in terms of black or white, on or off, unhealthy or diet, Republican or Democrat, liberal or conservative, North or South, popular or passe, with us or against us, do or do not...and on, and on. It's like everyone is obsessed with twos. Present them with a third option, and they get confused. It's kind of pathetic and sad, really.

I love taking the third option. I vote Independent. I believe in grey. I love to try. I eat what I want. I'm with people so long as they're in the right. I believe anything can become good fashion. Offer me burgers or tacos, and I'll choose fish. My favorite word is "maybe".

I am the third option, and I say: be different, and be proud of it!
