[The communicator turns on to darkness, the sound of someone gasping and running the only sounds being heard. And then, suddenly, it falls out of the pocket it had obviously been in, bouncing harshly against the pavement. There's an old man in orange robes standing in front of some blood stained robes

[Aaand he totally is, in just a minute, racing outside and looking terrified of what he'll find. He doesn't even dare ask if Aang is okay... he doesn't know if he can stand the answer]

Gyatso is quietly sitting there, in shock, staring at the robes that used to belong to his student.]

No...
[he'd known of course, when he'd seen that video, he'd known but... Zuko reaches out to catch Gyatso's shoulder to pull him from his shocked stupor]

He's seen too much death, too much heartache and that's what Gyatso is feeling right now and he needs to be there for him. ]
Gyatso, Zuko...
[Where is he needed? Right here, but - he comes forward a little more gently, to help Zuko with wondertwin. It's hard to tear their eyes from the sight - Aang - but he manages it to look into Gyatso's face, try to shake him gently out of it.]

Meryl, Zuko, this... this can't be...
[This can't be happening.]

He'll be back in a day, Gyatso. Come on. Get up.

Stop that, Meryl.
Zuko is right. It's only a waiting game now. Death will come, and in this place, it will reverse as well.
He looks back at Gyatso's face and his resolution cracks just a bit.]
He needs a minute, Zuko....I think...
[He suddenly pulls the old monk forward into an embrace.]
Just for a moment, and then we'll go....
[He's assuring himself as well as the other two.]

He's in shock.]

It's always like this, and he's always useless... His fists clench at his sides, jaw clenched tightly, but he's turned in such a way that his expression is invisible to the others. He's got to be strong for Gyatso.]

[Here, have Meryl hiding your face in his shoulder. He recalls Elysia's disappearance with sudden sharpness...the absolute, overwhelming despair that accompanied it. He had never felt such a thing in all his years. And this....this was worse. And worse, still, for Gyatso...the sobs shock him, but then it makes him panic. If the monk is reduced to this...]]
Shh, shh...
[The mage holds tightly to his friend, wishing desperately that everything would be alright. That everything would just...stop, and go backwards....and none of this would ever happen. He knows that never works. But he has to wish it...
"It's alright." But it's not alright...it would be absurd to even try to say it.]
Gyatso...
[They need to get him back into the apartment. He slowly stands, still holding Gyatso, supporting him up.]

He feels like crying, but he can't. It's just too much. Aang is dead. Even if he'll be back tomorrow... Aang is dead. It leaves a gaping hole in his heart. He had raised Aang since he was little, and for the boy to be dead....
Gyatso knows that Aang is dead, even without seeing the body. He can just sense it.
So all he can do is put one foot in front of the other, slowly, with Meryl's help. He has to be there, he has to keep himself together. Aang will need him tomorrow. Aang will be upset, maybe terrified over what had happened, and he needs to be there....
It's the only thought that keeps him from losing it completely.]

He'll be back tomorrow.
[he can only repeat it, and mostly to himself. It's still hard and he hateshatehates how it makes him seem so callous and dismissive, but Aang will be back she wants to focus on that and not on the blood. That and finding whoever did this. That... little man had seen something. Zuko was going to find him and make him talk.]

Come on, Meryl. Keep going. Keep helping Gyatso.
He looks across to Zuko. On the contrary, he actually thinks the boy has the right attitude about it. Not that Gyatso's is wrong - but that he's always been able to pull himself up before, and he wants to be able to dot that again, just to keep going...time marches on...we have to keep going.]
Perhaps I should stay...
[That won't be a problem, right? He hitches a breath, trying to think through the haze of shock and pain. They reach the door.]
Check the time...

Although he's not unused to the sight of blood. Air Nomad children tended to get into accidents with their gliders as they learned how to use them. Injuries happened. But none of that was ever of the malicious sort. Just accidents. He had only ever seen accidental injuries.
What was done to Aang was done on purpose.
But he's slowly focusing more and more on the present.]
I-I know, Zuko.. He will be back...
[As to Meryl's suggestion, Gyatso nods.]
Y-Yes. Please, stay...
[He checks the time, rather numbly, and commits the time to memory. Aang will be back then, maybe sooner.]
