Last night was a lot of fun.
My dorm has several lounges. There is a big, main lounge on the ground floor. It has a pool table, ping-pong table, couches, a tv, table, etc.... There is also a lounge on each floor (there are 3 floors - four lounges in total). These lounges are smaller but they have a tv, table, couches, and a printer. My floor's lounge is usually full of people doing their calculus or chemistry homework together. It can sometimes get loud (especially when the tv is on) and I don't take either calc or chem so I never used to sit in there b/c I didn't know those people. Last week I started to do my work in there because I was tired of sitting in my room because it is small and my roommate always has the tv on (I don't like watching a lot of tv - especially those "reality" shows). I found that I work better in the lounge even though it is a little noisy because I work well when I see other people working.
Yesterday I spent most of the evening/night in the lounge. I didn't really feel like spemding another evening cooped up in the room with my roommate and some of the horrible decorations she put on her side of the room (we are talking foam cut-outs of castles, crowns, stars, etc - the things 2 year olds use on their art projects). I have gotten to recognize people in the lounge and they recognize me but we rarely talk. I started out just doing my work and occasionally adding my bit to a conversation. By the end of the night I had abandoned my work (I did most of it and it was just reading that is not completely due until Thursday anyway) and I was having full on conversations with people who I never talked to before (we talked about everything from the hands up song to childhood fears, etc...). I now know so many people's names. I actually talked to electric toothbrush girl and learned that she is the Rachel that lives next to me, not weird girl named Rachel. I had a lot of fun. I didn't want to go back to my room. I finally went back around 1:30 b/c I had a 7:55 class this morning. The room was dark and my roommate was sound asleep. I don't think she left her room all night (and she expects to make friends that way). Anyway, the point is that I will definately be hanging out in the lounge more because last night was what college was all about.
