5 (short) things Kory does in the City.

It terrifies her how much and at the same time how little this Robin reminds her of the man she loves. Knowing what's to come seems to add to that terror, nearly helpless in the face of her destiny. Something she can't change no matter how hard she had worked to win him and keep him.

She loves him anyway, this grim little Robin who seems to soften a bit more every time she sees him. She loves him for who he reminds her of and the person he shows himself to be day by day.

Kory goes to visit the Iron Fists with increasing frequency. She dresses conservatively out of respect for Wu, drinks tea and talks about languages and fighting. Their control is something fascinating to her. All of them, even Orson who seems so lost at times, have a centered feeling to them, uninhibited despite the necessity for control, something she's never seen in Earthlings before.

The fourth time she visits, she asks Wu to teach her. She can't specify when Wu asks, she isn't really sure herself.

iii

Wade makes her laugh. No matter what anyone else says about him and though he crosses the line at times, he makes her laugh. He has a wonderful freedom and touches her without hesitation. Sometimes it's a relief to have someone reaching out for her rather than the other way around.

iv

The kids worry her a lot. Not Roy and Wally so much. She knows they'll grow up to be fine men, despite the hardships they might face. Even Dick she believes has the strength to become such. The others.... well...

There's a darkness in all of them that she doesn't ever remember being there when she and the others first started the Titans. These children have lost so much it seems... And she's foreign to them, she knows. She's 19 years short on memories and barely older than a few of them. She reaches out to them in the ways she can, with warm smiles and hugs.

Most of her paychecks from modeling go to putting as much good food in the kitchen as physically possible. The Christmas tree in the Tower is only partly for her. She wants them to see that they can make something beautiful when they're all together. She's not sure they'd really understand, the words in languages they understand don't have the same potency she needs to convey what she means. Instead she does what she can and loves them fiercely.

v

She doesn't recognize him when he kisses her. He's not even 16 in her time. He's alive. She doesn't connect the smart mouthed, brave boy in the bright yellow cape with the man who smells like leather and blood. He gives her a kiss that starts out rough and ends almost gently, gloved hand cupping her cheek. She's caught by surprised and can't think of what else to do other than kiss him back because there's something elusively familiar about him. Danny's friend. The Red Hood. What was his name?

He pulls away and gives her a cocky little smirk that makes her eyes go wide. He disappears back into the night before she can reach out to touch him.

"...Jason?"
