Days 2 and 3
I hate typhoons. Or monsoons. Or whatever the locals called it. At first, I thought it'd be pretty cool. When we got to Shanghai, it was the day before the monsoon and was really cool and comfortable. But the next day, it started pouring. It didn't bother me until we had to go to our next city, Luoyang. So at the airport, all planes to and from Shanghai were grounded, so we couldn't go to Luoyang, making us miss my cousin's wedding. Instead, we (me and my mom) took a train to her hometown, Tianjin. Boy did that trainride suck.
What could've taken like 2 hours by plane instead took us 14+ hours by train (i lost count of the exact number of hours). Because there were no planes in Shanghai, the number of people taking the trains like tripled. All the beds and seats were sold out on the train, so we had to get "standing" tickets, where they make you stand in the aisles and whatever space is left. Luckily for us, the dining car was offering their seats for 40 yuan. So we sat in those seats for the night, but left the next morning because it was so fricking cold in that room. So then we moved to the regular seating cars and found some empty seats. Most of them were next to hobos or farmers or something, and it bothered me having to sit next to them. This one guy sneezed on me like 3 times and now I'm scared I'm gonna get SARS.
Anyways, now I'm in Tianjin in my aunt/uncle/cousin's apartment. We leave tomorrow morning for Beijing by ...taxi... and I'll post this online once I get there (I'm writing this on notepad like a journal kind of thing and I just update my livejournal when I have access to the internet). I probably wont be including the day number anymore either seeing as how I've already started losing track. I think there's only like a week left before I get to come home.
Oh yeah I doubt I'm gonna have much stuff actually filmed with my video camera. In these crowded cities, showing that you're a tourist (with like luggage and cameras and stuff) makes you a target for pickpocketers. So we're trying to look as native as possible... guess it doesn't help that almost all my shirts have some rock figure on it.
