Time seems to be going by so fast. Only one more week of classes. It will be sooooo good to finally be done for the summer. I have a bunch of projects that keep being put off until after finals that I'll be plenty busy until it's time to go down for Sarah's graduation.
David and I walked down to the plaza today and wandered around the farmer's market. Still nothing real to eat, but it was a beautiful day and a nice walk, about 2 miles both ways. We ended up buying a big hanging basket of strawberries, so hopefully in a few weeks we'll be able to eat our very own strawberries. Yum. At this point, I've decided it will be better to wait on the garden until I've gotten back from Alaska, and to prep the bed and maybe plant some winter crops like garlic, or just do a cover crop. I'm trying to get a hold of a CSA (community supported agriculture) in our area to see about buying a share. Depending on what size share we get it'll be $18-30/week for a box full of fresh veggies. Much better than I could do in the stores.
I went to a vegan comfort food class on Tuesday. Lots of fun and lots of good food. The mac and cheese, baked tofu, and garlic and rosemary potatoes were awesome. Hopefully the group will put on more vegan cooking classes. They were even talking about getting some big vegan cook book authors to give classes, so that would be a lot of fun. It's really the first time I've been with a big group of people that were all vegan or vegetarian. Now one of you just needs to visit sometime so I can make the crunchy chocolate truffle pie without feeling guilty about having to eat it all myself. Not that I would mind, but I'm sure my waist would.
Brandon went to the vet yesterday. I gave him a sedative, but it still took the vet and a technician to hold him down, and he still ended up tearing them apart. It's so heartbreaking for me. On one hand, I know that he needs to get the shots and have a check up to make sure everything is ok. On the other hand, he had/has no idea why his body wouldn't work the way it was supposed to, or why they were hurting him. He was pretty wonky all day yesterday from the drug, but he seemed to be all better this morning.
Not much else to report really. David's blood sugars have been really good this last week, so maybe the diet changes we are making are helping. I have no idea what I weigh right now, but my jeans feel loose (even right out of the drier!), and I'm up one notch on my belt, so it seems like I'm doing something right. Hopefully this week I will FINALLY get my bike into a shop and will start riding it to classes, to the beach, and on short trips to the store/farmer's market.
