"Allegro..."
"Mmm?"
"...nothing."
The white elf cocked her head curiously and sat down next to Alyial in front of a fading fire. "Alyial...c'mon!" The dark elf shook her head and twitched as Allegro put her hand on Alyial's shoulder. She shuddered violently and curled up, shadows gathering around her slowly and extinguishing the fire. Allegro shivered and scooted closer to Alyial, who twitched and bolted to her den. The shadows ran after her, and Alyial's den was soon engulfed in darkness. Allegro sighed deeply. Alyial would never tell her what was going on, she would just hide in her shadows. If the tribe was lucky, the shadowshaper would come out after a couple days.
Allegro stood and made her way to Alyial's den. She picked one on the edge of the holt, since she liked to be alone. The entire tree was black now, radiating shadow, and the Go-Back felt colder as she walked closer. She grit her teeth and pushed through the nearly corporeal shadow, pushing it away with her hands. "Alyial...let me in! Please!" The shadows hardened around Allegro, crushing her slowly. "Alyial!!" she screamed. Alyial bolted up and, with a wave of her hand, the shadows disappeared. Allegro collapsed and the dark elf scrambled over to her, sobbing.
"I'm sorry, Allegro! I didn't know it was you!" Alyial cried. Allegro mumbled and panted, getting up slowly.
"It's okay. You don't talk to me about what's going on, you just run off and hide! I'm worried about you, Alyial, I..."
"Allegro..." Allegro turned her head away from Alyial and stood, starting to walk out of the den. Alyial clutched her pale hand to stop her, and the bleached elf turned around slowly. Suddenly, she held a crumpled, dark elf in her pale arms, smoothing her hair and sending quiet, calming thoughts. Alyial settled into Allegro's warm embrace, eventually calming to a sniffle.
"Allegro?"
"Mmm?"
"Would you..."
"Mmm." Allegro picked up Alyial's tiny frame and layed her gently in her furs. The dark elf curled up a little and Allegro snuggled in next to her, snaking her arm around her waist and holding her close. Alyial shivered and nestled her head on Allegro's chest, quickly falling asleep to the beating of a white heart.
"Mmm?"
