Summary: In death, Alfred F. Jones relives his sixty-seven years of life. He summons memories of friendship, love, and loss, and looks for the one person who can heal his broken heart.
The memory of home passes with the rain. The drizzle turns to mist as Alfred walks back from whence he came. It turns to nothing but clouds when he re-approaches the cemetery. The people are gone; no one is near. His feet skirt over the dew-covered grass and his hands slide into his pockets. He chooses not to visit his grave. He knows he would live his death again. There was no need to revisit it then.

He does, however, choose to view someone else's death. He walks to the plot directly next to his, as if his isn't there. He stares down at it and hopes no one stood atop it during his funeral.

Alfred crouches down and brushes a hand fondly over the name-plate, but no longer feels the cool marble under his fingertips. He examines the dates with a blank expression: 1990 to 2014. Twenty-four years old - far too young, everyone agreed. He glances at the embedded image of Jesus and knows that the grave's owner was not religious. Looking back upon it, Alfred wonders why he chose that particulate headstone for his dear partner.

When he reads the name for what feels like the millionth time, he feels tears spring to his eyes. It surprises him that the dead can still cry. He sees his emotions - feelings of loneliness and heartache - cloud around him in grays, blacks, and whites, and for a moment, he wonders if he will ever see color again.

The ghost curls into himself to try and take shelter from his sorrow. He allows the tears to trickle unreservedly down his face and lets out a sob.

Forty-five years later, even in death, the name breaks his heart.

Author's Note: Not much to say on this, except that it was a particularly painful chapter to write; partly because of the character death involved, and partly because it reminds me of the people I've lost. I guess anything involving the loss of a character does that.
Two updates in a day as an apology to you guys - and then I leave you hanging. Aren't I evil?~ It might not seem like it now, but this fic'll have a happy ending - I promise!
