Mocha's snaggle-tooth

On Friday I noticed that Mocha had chipped her lower left canine tooth. I have no idea how she managed to do this. I think she must have gotten frightened of the thunderstorm on Friday and chipped her tooth on the metal door of her kennel. She was behaving normally when I got home.

We went into the vet on Sunday and happily, the chip isn't into the pulp. So we can leave it as is - Mocha Snaggletooth. Yet another quirk or my strange, goofy dog. I need to keep an eye on it. If it chips again and gets into the pulp, I will see the red dot of the pulp - or if the root dies the tooth will change colour. In either case it will have to be taken out at a cost of $500 - $600. I consider the money already spent, because I have a feeling that tooth will need to come out in the next two years anyway. I didn't get lucky this weekend, we merely postponed the inevitable.

On the way home from the vet's Kat & I discovered the "Queer Literary Festival" had taken over Church street.  It was strange because two blocks had been shut off from traffic, but there were hardly any vendors.  There was a booth for the Women's Bookstore, but there were barely any books, and there were a few zines out, but nothing terribly interesting to be perfecty honest.  There was a bounce-castle for the kids right across from the Rainbow cafe which was entertaining to watch when we had lunch - the kids looked like bits of popcorn in a popper.

It was great to see Church street out and about for the Literary Festival - I don't know if they were winding down on Sunday or if they just had a poor vendor turnout this year.

Kat taught me to knit this weekend. I have a new obsession. You'd think it'd be the cat into my knitting all the time, but it's really Mocha I have to watch - she thinks the soft string balls are perfect toys for her. She's a stealthy thief and got into my knitting bag twice (and stole my knitting project while I was cleaning up the first mess!) and she got into Kat's knitting once. I should find her a tennis ball shaped soft toy to play with.

We made vegan chocolate mint cheesecake on Saturday night - the recipe from "Sinfully Vegan" made TWICE the filling that would fit into the prescribed 9 inch crust. The filling tasted great, we got the measurements right, there was just far too much of it! We have the filling for a while other vegan cheesecake in my freezer - I hope it bakes up alright when we take it out.
