I got back yesterday from a completely wonderful weekend in San Diego.
Valerie was having a delayed-reaction birthday weekend, with crafting and a zoo visit and food! I met Earin, who was my fellow house guest, and we all knit like crazy. I was hoping to finish the mitered diamond blanket I'm making for Edo and Patty's baby, but I was distracted by the Spirogyra mitts, and ended up only making a little progress on the blanket.

On Saturday Earin, Valerie, Rob and I all went to the zoo for a low key visit with the amimals. Highlights included watching the okapi mother licking her nearly-grown baby (okapi tongue ftw!), and seeing two baby takins (so fuzzy!), and the polar bear taking a giant crap right in front of the delighted/disgusted spectators.
Saturday night lots of people came over and we cut rubber stamps and ate pizza. I was in a meat-eating minority.
Sunday it was sweltering, so we all just stayed indoors and crafted some more. Elinor screenprinted some cute toddler clothes, and there was lots of knitting, and some computer hackery as well. And then we ate dim sum. And then I stayed up way too late drinking Macallan 12 year old whisky and talking with Rob. That always happens! But I don't mind. The late night conversations are a treat I look forward to on my visits just as much as hanging out in the mornings with Valerie and Laila.
On Monday I brought my knitting with me on the plane and knit more on the glove. As I was waiting for my train, I discovered that I have enough yarn to actually make a much longer gauntlet, in fact, I could make them mid-bicep length! So, I tore out my 6 inches of knitting and started over in a bigger size.
The heat follwed me up to the Bay Area. It's nearly 100° here now (F, of course), but it's supposed to cool off to the 80s tomorrow, and even get cool and cloudy for the weekend.
