I have had myself a splendid weekend. A great deal of it was fun. There was only one (maybe one and a half) non-fun things about it, but it was pretty much all splendid.
Friday I took off of work to get ready for my party. That involved a buttload of shopping with my friend B, who kindly commandeered a Costco card from her sister's boyfriend who has a gender-ambiguous name. After the shopping I got ready for my first Victorian performance with Danse Libre. My dress fit like a dream, and the corset worked well without keeping me from breathing. Sadly, I stumbled over a bit of misremembered choreography and sprained my ankle early in the first number. I was able to finish the performance, but ended up having to ice the ankle. That was the main non-fun part of the weekend.
On Saturday morning, Jay headed off to Pillar Point harbor for live dungeness crab. He came home with 19 monsters! I borrowed a turkey fryer from a neighbor, and we started in on the boilin'! We also did my Californiafied version of a Southern crab boil: potatoes, mutant carrots, shallots and artichokes plus shrimp, sausage and seasonings, all strewn on a table and eaten out of hand. yum.
Tons of people came to the party, but I was cooking for most of it, and ate very little, drank very little, and talked very little. I hear it was a pretty nice party. Next time I wonder if making a lot more stuff ahead of time would be better. Or having someone else do all the arrangements. I have a vision of a hostess presiding over her party like a queen bee, but I've never hosted that kind of party myself. ha ha!
Today was slow and happy. I played with Perry, took him out for pie, and later the whole family went to a friend's house for a latke party. I ended up taking Perry for a walk part way through, because he was incredibly hyper. This gave Jay a good hour to enjoy his food and a little beer. Then Jay took Perry home for bed, allowing me to actually enjoy a couple of hours of a party this weekend. Good times.
