He had been perfect throughout the whole three days. Absolutely perfect, not a foot wrong. Making sure to push hard enough to keep Dani Sordo behind, but making clear that he knew his role and wasn't intentionally putting any pressure on Mikko. Doing everything just right! No mistakes at all! Really happy! Adorably enthusiastic! The light was back in his beautiful little face!
But that's the thing about rallying, that's the cruel sting in the tail that's always there. You can't win it on a sss but you sure as hell can lose it. It's happened to other drivers before, but why for fuck's sake did it have to happen to him, now, just as he was getting back to sure steps, back into the good books, back into contention. Why wasn't he just driving round carefully within the margin that he had from Dani? What is there inside his head that makes the short-circuit, that starves all the other systems of blood and leaves only attack attack attack?
All I've got is that I tweeted Neil from Dave and said "give Jari-Matti a hug when you see him." I just wish I could somehow help, you know?
I'm talking shite, forgive me, I've had a very large banana daiquirí and more wind than is really helpful.

I hope Neil from Dave did give him a hug, he totally needed it. And that bit when he was saying 'I totally understand if they sack me' was just heartbreaking. And you could see Malcolm Wilson thinking 'you did NOT just do that', and Mikko thinking 'this is mad'.
Autosport has reported that they are sticking with him for Finland, but my god he'd better take that easy. And take something to cure the little voice that goes 'Attack! Attack! Attack!'
Don't worry about talking shite after drinking wine, I think I posted something barely legible on Saturday after having a glass or four!
