Studio
I'm starting not to like my prof this semester. He doesn't really offer any new ways of thinking or approaching design. We're designing our eco-hotel for Seattle but all he's shown us is regular hotels with interesting facades and skin. Our prof last semester totally changed the way we thought about a building and how we move through buildings and how to let the circulation really define the shape of the building. I'm having a hard time doing that this year.
Plus he was very mean during our review in which CORD BOWEN (the love of my life/first year summer studio prof) was a guest judge. I had a new model, which my current prof Matt had asked to have by then. I have it and after my presentation he's like "well I hadn't seen this model before today so I don't know what it means). He said snarky thinks like that to others too.
Cord gave amazing feedback to everyone; very 'big picture' overall concept feedback. Matt would butt in and try to add his 2 cents but it was very blah comments. First of all with the Juries the prof is supposed to shut up and only chime in to offer some defense for the student if necessary. This is the time to hear the guests point of views, and definitely not try to cover your own ass about not having seen this or that.
The sucky part is that he comes in late and then leaves early. He asked us to have our stuff laid on our desk the next day so he could walk around and give us our midterm review grade, but he never showed up and I doubt that he ever came to look at them afterward as he said he would. His comments for me in email did not sound like he came to look at my stuff because he mentioned he wanted detailed plans and sections (which I had plenty of, in fact I had the most of anyone).
I'm having a hard time with what my wildcard program should be. I want to add public park space into my building but I also want to add a restaurant? But he wants me to be specific about what happens in the public spaces. I'm not going to tell the public they can only grill food or only play on swings. shite. Bitter.
