Crossovers

Okay, I'm on the verge of a MAJOR fic writing flow. I've be submitting Doctor Heroes, now titled "Power and Time", to a Doctor Who community I go on. This, and editing the chapters a little, has put me in a mood to FINALLY carry on writing the story. So right now I'm watching Heroes season one to get myself back into the thing of writing these characters. Although as a side effect of watching the Gilmore Girls I find Peter Petrelli's hair extra fascinating. Curse you Milo Ventimiglia and your distracting hair!

ANYWAY, I've been pondering on the nature of crossover fics. I love crossovers, as can be evidenced by this fic and one I have planned; a River Song in Firefly one. But there are some crossovers that no matter how cool I think they would be just wouldn't work.

Crossovers that just wouldn't work:
Doctor Who/Star Trek: I discussed this one with thewaterbandit I think it was. The Enterprise crew is too technologically advanced that anything the Doctor can do, with the possibly exception of the TARDIS being bigger on the inside, wouldn't really impress them. Also they're fairly no-nonsense in Star Trek so I don't think the Doctor's shenanigans would go down well.
pretty much anything/LOTR: There's just something so particular about LOTR that if you introduced something extra to that then it's just gonna fall apart. Doctor Who? You're gonna have to explain the science away as magic or vice versa. Only way you can get around it is if the Doctor and companion know that they're in a book and so have to behave in line with the rules of that world for now. Middleman? Way to goofy to mix with LOTR. Heroes? No, just no. Star Wars? As amusing as the thought of Aragorn wth a lightsaber is, no.
Doctor Who/LOST: People trapped on an island? No problem, just pile them into the TARDIS and it's back to civilisation. Story over. very boring.

Crossovers that I think could work:
Doctor Who/Firefly: Okay, this is essentially what my River Song story is, but there's just somethign about Firefly that makes me think it can fit so well with Doctor Who.
Heroes/Star Trek: I will almost definately never ever write this one because I can't think of a plot and it'd almost definately be stupid, but I just love the idea of someone mistaking Spock for Sylar and the hilarious and possibly low level violence shenanigans that would follow from such a misunderstanding.
Heroes/Middleman: Okay, I did start on this once and the basic premise was "Peter becomes the Middleboy" but it kinda got lost underneath Power and Time. Maybe I'll return to it one day. It'll definately be more Middleman style than Heroes style.
Moonlight/Being Human: Mick St. John is like the American Mitchell. Except that he's also a detective and doesn't wear nearly as many bright colours as Mitchell, but that's beside the point.
Chuck/pretty much anything: Oh come on, am I the only person who thinks it'd be awesome to see Chuck flash on a certain Police Box? Or see John Casey meet Jayne?

Okay, that seemed to have a bit of a Doctor Who theme there didn't it? Maybe it's just really on my mind after the finale last week. Loved that btw. River Song is a woman who can make a DALEK beg for MERCY and that, ladies and gentlemen is why she rocks. I like her, but I LOVE Rory. He really had his moment in that finale. Amy was better that usual, but she needs to have some more development as a character before I can really like her. She is flawed and that is a good thing, but I disliked her still throwing herself at the Doctor when she JUST GOT MARRIED toa  guy who waited 2000 YEARS for her. But it was a great story, very timey-wimey (I like timey-wimey) and very fun. Fezs are cool.

Peace out
