Thursday I made arrangements for the fetching of groceries Friday, and went to bed fairly early, but woke up not long after midnight and never really got back to proper sleep. there were catnaps and periods of hamster wheel brain and in general just a dissatisfying second half to the night, which ended when I finally got up about quarter past three. Since then I've munched some donuts and drunk coffee and ordered the groceries online, and selected a two o'clock pickup time. I got a text notice that the store's shoppers had begun assembling the order about ten o'clock, and now they've texted me that the order is complete and can be picked up anytime. But criminy Dutch, it's two and a half hours ahead of when I want it. I'm thinking the shoppers must be on drugs. Or did somebody just forget to teach an entire generation of kids how to tell time?
Happier news is that the rain arrived early this morning, and though it has settled down into something that could be better described as a dense mist, at least everything is pleasantly wet. The forecast is still promising a rainy week, and even beyond that there will be plenty of clouds so it could rain even more. I doubt this will make up for the shortfall we had through January, especially considering that it's going to be warmish rain and thus not able to add much snowpack in the mountains. The rain is being brought by what is called locally a pineapple express, which means it is considered gauche to eat pizza while the rain is falling... oh, wait, that's something else. It means the rain is full of mid-Pacific tropical moisture. As far as the water supply goes we'd be better off with a traditional cold storm, but if this is what we get, well, it's way better than nothing.
My low grade headache is persisting, which might interfere with my enjoyment of the rain, but I have a decent supply of aspirin. In time I think I'll have to make an appointment for a chiropractic adjustment, which I haven't had in over six years now. Those were what kept the headaches at bay in the past, and I'm sure they will work now as well, but I hate the idea of needing go out so often and travel though the repellant streets of the mini-metropolis. And the damnable summer is coming. Traffic and summer were both less odious in the mountains, but that time is over. I'm probably stuck here for the rest of my life. But maybe that won't be too long.
