51/99: No Egg On Our Faces

Dec 21, 2024 09:22

After putting groceries away Friday evening I just collapsed into bed without eating dinner. I had a couple of slices of bread and butter, but that was it. I slept until three o'clock in the morning, then got up and eventually microwaved a bowl of ramen. Later I had some coffee and a donut, but I'm not feeling great. My neck is about as bad as it's ever been, and I seem to be developing something in my hips that feels like rheumatism. It's amazing how much crap happens when you get really old. It has been raining off and on for about three hours now, and it's very chilly, and I want to go get back under my covers.

Safeway was out of eggs, by the way. It turns out they are in short supply all over California. Something to do with avian flu. I was going to do some baking, but probably won't. I could have bought liquid eggs, but didn't. I find it weird that liquid eggs are even a thing. They come in a milk carton-like container, which reminds me of that seasonal abomination, eggnog. A guaranteed way to ruin perfectly good booze. I'd eat a hundred stale fruitcakes before I'd touch a single glass of eggnog. But I'd sure like an egg to put into my cornbread. What a world!

Happy Winter Solstice.
