Yay! The National is one of my favorite bands. It's odd, I wasn't into them until, oh, a year and a half ago. Finding out he likes them, too? Be still my heart.
The Internet has completely changed the way people get information. Sometimes I'm just too lazy to look in an encyclopedia or the book of records for something that would take me a few seconds to search for online. I have friends that I don't talk to very much in real life, but they know so much of what's going on because of twitter, livejournal, facebook and the like.
When I was younger, you found out about the fabulous lives of celebrities from interviews they did on late night or daytime television shows or magazines. Now we've this massive tool (... that's what she said) at everyone's disposal and such a broad range of information coming and going -- I think it's refreshing that you were able to refrain from doing the fangirl stalker thing. I tell people "I'm not a stalker/creeper, but" and then out myself as a huge weirdo.
I imagine, were you able to engage him in conversation, the topics would come naturally -- he seems like that kind of person.

Any chance you could recommend some songs? I listened to a few on YouTube and found them a bit slower than I like, but then I like Republic Tigers and Rilo Kiley, so I'm not one to talk...

Oh definitely. Stalkery as this sounds, I hope I get the chance to find out the truth of that some day. He's one of the more articulate, intelligent celebs out there and if I could just get past those blue eyes of his to pick his brain I'd be a happy woman.

They are quite mellow, I think part of it is his voice. Faster songs -- Mr. November, Mistaken For Strangers, Secret Meeting, Karen, Lit Up, and Fake Empire to an extent.

Awesome. Hittin' up iTunes now, like. Got a few Clap Your Hands Say Yeah tracks on there already, I think. :)
And I changed the keywords on mah neue icon to "That's what SHE said!" because I just... couldn't help it. (Srsly, this is very epic. Until this lil' beaut I couldn't find an icon I liked enough to make my 112th. YOU ARE EPIC, BB. EPIC.)
Ooh, my blood sugar just bottomed out. Not that could could tell or anything. *lol*
