Hello-
I am sitting here getting ready to sit on a panel for High school students with disabilites discovering opportunities in University/college transition. I am so happy to have this chance because one of my huge qualms has been the lack of students with, at least visible disabilities in higher education. I want to see MORE and not feel like the only one up here.... One of my ex peer counselong supervisors and I chatted for a long time last week and one of the things she said to me, well asked me.. "If I realized what an accomplishment or uncommon thing it is for me to have made it this far.. statisitcaly and in reality...." Normaly, things like that really get on my nerves to hear however, coming from Cecilia, I know that she really 'get's it.'
This high school program is from this place called the Center for an Accesible society and this is the first year that they have instituted such a program to help high school students with disabilities transition to college. I have not seen all of these students yet but from what I saw, most of them use wheelchairs so obviously, they are dealing with physical disabilities which is one of my best areas of interest.
Anyways, I shall go for now
