well.. this past thursday, I finally got a diagnosis for the incessant pain in my right thumb/palm area that's also affecting my left hand but not as severely fortunately.
The rigtht one is causing me problems with grasping, opening things like car doors, driving my scooter, etc... it's PAINFUL...
the condition is called deQuarvains tenosynovitis.. at least I think the first part is right but the tenosynovitis is def. right... it's basically inflammation of the synoval sheath that is around tendons.. so this is affecting the tendon in the thumb right before the wrist.
The main treatment is iceing, immobilization, resting it, cortisone shots, surgery if it gets that bad...
well the stupid clinic didnt have the right splints to immobalize it so they ordered them i think... in the mean time they used this dumb frog splint its called which does NOTHING... I have regular splints but it doesnt protect the thumb.... it costs too much to buy my own splints since i don't have an income... they are about 18 a piece... and so waiting for CMS.... feel like that will be one long wait with the way they have done things in the past.. ugh.
I can't drive my scooter with my thumb in a splint and driving with my left hand is incredibly precarious but the pain is terrible esp. when I do some movement that it doesn't like.. the pain is very shocking. I often don't know which movements aggrivate it the most until I accidently do it and since im so rigtht handed, it happens a lot. ugh...
it's such a small diagnosis but just another thing. Oh yeh.. the condition is mostly idiopathic and blamed on repetitive stress however it's also very very common in people with inflammatory arthritis like JRA so thats likely the culprit. Makes me wonder about the prognosis since its related to inflammation which my body doesnt ever seem to run short on....
UGH
