Welcome to the Turks

I don't know what's wrong with me. I have lots of stuff to read and homework to do and what do I do? I start on a Turk!Cloud AU! GAH. At least this was fun. XD Poor, poor Cloud.

Summary: Cloud recieves some unexpected news. Poor Cloud.
Comments: Short, 638 words. Will probably write more at a later date once I wrap my mind around the concept of Turk!Cloud. Or at least, Cloud trying to become one. Ahahaha.

“Stand still,” went the slightly gruff voice.

Cloud jerked slightly at the command, but held his body motionless, anxiety thrumming through his veins so quickly it was like he had taken a couple of hypers. He didn’t know why Tseng of the Turks was talking to him, was looking him over as one might a racing chocobo, and wished for nothing more than to run away.

Bright spots of color splashed across his cheeks as the Turk continued to observe him, not even bothering to hide the contemplative way he eyed Cloud’s body.

Cloud was pretty sure that Tseng wasn’t… wasn’t… interested in him that way, no matter how the other soldiers laughed and elbowed him, calling him pretty. Tseng didn’t make him nervous in the way that… lech (as Zack had called him) in barrack 7 did. It was a different nervous, like Tseng was this giant hunting cat that could at any moment decide to bite off his head.

Sephiroth made him feel the same way, only more so, and with accompanying flutters to his stomach that he didn’t quite get-not matter how much Zack teased him.

Long minutes ticked by and Cloud nearly fidgeted, a finger twitching, except he remembered Tseng’s words and consciously stopped any movements he might have made. It was embarrassing to be standing in the middle of the corridor like this, but what could he do? It was a Turk! And not just any Turk, but it was Tseng. Tseng of the Turks, which was like a pealing of doom roaming whenever the name was uttered.

At least, Cloud tried to quell the queasiness of his stomach, I know that everyone else would feel the same way, that it’s not just me being a coward.

Except Sephiroth wouldn’t be scared (but it was Sephiroth, Sephiroth wouldn’t be afraid of anyone!) and he once saw Zack grin and give a mocking comment to Tseng (but Zack was insane, so he didn’t count, right?).

Finally Tseng’s eyes flicked upwards over his body, landing and locking with Cloud’s own blue ones.

Cloud gave a silent gulp, fidgeting completely forgotten as he froze underneath the stare. Tseng’s face was void of all emotion, even the previous assessing one, and he seemed more than content to continue to stare into Cloud’s eyes.

The blond seized what small measure of courage he had (courage bolstered by the quick grins and steady encouragement Zack gave him) and, to his dismay, croaked out, “S-sir?” The color on his cheeks flushed even deeper, Cloud silently mortified at how stiff his voice had come out.

Tseng finally broke eye contact, gave a slight nod to himself, and said, “You’ll do.”

“Sir?” Cloud was proud to notice that his voice was steadier this time, a little less ‘utterly frightened’ and just edging ‘frightened’.

“Congratulations,” Tseng’s voice was cool, a little dry, “You’re going to go into training to become a Turk.”

As Cloud stared at him wide-eyed, all cognitive thought dribbling out of his ears, Tseng went on as if nothing was amiss, “Your classes will remain the same for the most part-barring a few changes and deletions. Your current training will be supplemented by someone of my choosing. As of this moment, you’ll be bunking with Reno.” Finally a speck of emotion from the man, in the form of a vague curl of his lip (the beginnings of a deprecating smile?). Cloud could only stare at him helplessly.

“Your new uniform will be arriving shortly. Any other questions you have, ask Reno. Work hard, be on time, and above all,” dark eyes stared at Cloud, as if trying to press the line into his heart, “loyalty to the Turks.” Tseng gave a wave of his hand, said shortly, “Dismissed,” and walked away before Cloud could recover.

Cloud whimpered softly.
