Hey everyone, before I start the actual blog, I just want to say that for those of who missed the NFL 101 Awards Press Conference being broadcast on 90.5 KGSP Pirate Radio on Saturday afternoon, you didn't miss anything. We had so many technical difficulties saturday afternoon...I really don't want to type or talking about it anymore. And no we were not able to record it. Trust me, it really wasn't worth taping. But I was able to record the press conference from some of the NFL 101 Award winners on video.
The reason why it wasn't worth taping was because of the fact that Peyton wasn't there. But Archie was! I'll talk about a very cool story later.
So of course the NFL 101 Awards started with the Chiefs section of the program with Ryan Succup getting the Mack Lee Hill Award and Jamaal Charles winning the Derrick Thomas Award. These guys were very nice and I had a great time meeting both of them. Marty Schottenheimer was there as well. He is going to be inducted to the Chief's Hall of Fame later this year. He teared up during the last part of his speech.
For Mike Tirico, Darrell Revis, Charles Woodson, Drew Brees and Marvin Lewis (Sean Payton was not in attendance tonight), I have videos since I really don't want to talk about that part of the press conference all that much. And of course the first part I said that Peyton was also not in attendance during the NFL 101 Awards. He REALLY wanted to be there too, but his doctor said absolutely not. But it was great that Archie was there.
After the press conference and everything Juan C, Phil and I got to mingle with some people we didn't really know all that well. This woman named Star was very nice to me and even got me an extra key to the room she and her friends were staying at.
So after I met Star and we went up to the place where she and her friends were staying. I didn't stay in the hotel room for too long because I wanted to make sure Carlos and Phil were ok. So guess who I meet going down to the ball rooms? ARCHIE MANNING! I really couldn't believe it at first. I said, "Hi Archie!" and shook his hand. He stood next to me on the elevator! It was hard trying to keep it cool. I told him that I had a card for Peyton (kinda should have mentioned it was a birthday card...lol). I gave it to him after we got off the elevator. He was SO NICE! Oh and btw, I did get my picture taken with him later after the dinner.
So of course I didn't do much until the dinner. Just basically mingle with Mike, Juan and Phil. Oh yeah...and of course I ended up having to call my relatives after my little run-in with Archie (I ended up calling my mom, dad and my grandparents). I also got my picture taken with Cincy Bengals coach Marvin Lewis before he went to the reception. Got to shake hands with the Mayor of Kansas City Mark Funkhouser. I tried to get my picture taken with Kansas City Chiefs Head Coach Todd Haley, but my camera didn't work. He said we would try to get a photo later, but I didn't find him. Not a total loss though.
The ceremony was pretty good. I'm not going to talk too much about it. Basically the Chiefs players went first with Ryan Succup and Jamaal Charles. Todd Haley made a speech about the guys. It was really funny to see him so laid back because that's really how I don't picture the guy...which is mostly because he's on the sidelines yelling at the players and being loud most of the time!
During the dinner we had a bunch of players come over to our table, so I got my picture taken with Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles and Ryan Succup (that picture wasn't the best because Star moved the camera when it wasn't done flashing!). I wanted to get my picture taken with Archie, but he was really quick to get his mic on and get back to his table, so that didn't happen until later. I wasn't able to get my picture with Drew Brees this year either, but I didn't take that as a total loss either because I got his autograph and shook his hand.
The only part of the night I didn't like was the fact that...well I guess we could say...our arch enemy Rex Ryan was there. UHG UHG UHG! Ok, now he got lucky because I hate this man with a flying passion. And during the dinner he made a little joke how he knew that Peyton wasn't at the awards and that Archie was filling in for him. He wanted Archie to fill in for Peyton for the rest of that time in the NFL (something like that). Oh did that piss me off! I yelled, "OH SHUT UP!" too! I even told Darrell Revis that Rex Ryan needs to be careful when there are Colts fans in the room!
But other than that, it was a great night. Photos and video are behind the cut!
