A passing glance, elicits a giggle.
A woman walking by causes knuckles to be stuffed past lips to stop the amused noises from passing through.
A shared piece of pie allows more than just glances to be passed between bright eyes.
It shocks everyone else when they announce their engagement, never having seen the two of them together more than a handful of times.
It isn’t until later that their secret comes out, wide eyes staring upon them in amazement as the pair continue to stare into each other’s eyes. Having long ago found it unnecessary, but unable to stop the long-formed habit, built over days, and months, and years of shared glances between the two.
An amused voice saying the words the two thought, hands clasped between them as they forgot even those that had asked the question. Too lost in each other’s minds to say anything more than a passing thought, quickly delving back into the shared conversation that no one but the smiling couple could hear.
‘It’s better than passing notes under the table.’
