rocking out to the oldies

I had a lot of fun at the Nine Inch Nails/Jane's Addiction concert last night. I wavered on going because we had plans for something else, but I realized that I would regret it if I didn't see a couple of my favorite childhood bands. It was quite the middle aged crowd. All around me were old people dressed in regular non-goth attire who were here to see the bands of their youth. The music wasn't deafening, it started on time, and we had seats so we weren't all pressed up against each other. Oh how considerate, I thought, to make this concert middle-aged friendly for its aging audience.

I wanted to study before the show, but I had the early albums on cassette, which were somewhere in the garage. So I had the pleasure of listening to songs I hadn't heard for about 15 years. I had a lot of "oh, I remember this song!" and "oh yeah, I loved this song!" moments. Most of the words came back to me too.

In high school I used to say that my 2 band regrets were never having seen Jane's Addiction or Nirvana live. Well, I guess I can cross one off that list now.

I really felt the passage of time. Was it really so long ago?
