We just got back from a weekend in NYC. It was a test trip, to see how well I would do with all the walking. I did reasonably well, but am still not ready to do a full-blown vacation. Today we decided to celebrate Memorial Day by going to NYC.  Nothing went right, and it was pretty much a ( fiasco )

Today we came down to eat breakfast in the lobby only to discover that Sunday brunch costs $16/person. Of course they would do this on Sunday, the day when many breakfast places are closed. We ate a leisurely breakfast, then headed for the half price ticket window. This has been changed from Times Square to inside one the Marriott Marquis. We got there about 9:30, and as usual, the line looked very long. However, when it started moving we saw that we were near the front, and it moved very fast, so we were done by 10:20. Just like the last few years, Thanksgiving was very quiet this year -- just the two of us.  It just doesn't make sense to travel over 1,000 miles to spend Thanksgiving with relatives, and all our friends seem to have other plans.  We like turkey and leftovers, so I cooked a turkey anyway.  I spend the afternoon recaulking the bathtub, so at least I ( Read more... )

This year the UMW at my church decided to try chartering a bus to NYC, and today was the day.  We had to get up at the normal time that we get up to go to work, because the bus left at 7 AM.  However, this meant that we got to NYC promptly at 9.  Many of the people went to the Christmas show at Radio City Music Hall, so we were let off there.  Too ( Read more... )

Yesterday we went to the Metropolitan Museum in NYC to see the Egyptian collection.  Instead of taking the bus we decided to drive down to New Haven and take MetroNorth.  It is inconvenient to have to drive that far, but it is a little cheaper, and the trains run more often.  First we went to the stamp show.  I looked around a little.  One man had ( Read more... )
